  12. I have recently gotten a series of very high CPS dl's
  13. on 14.4 ZMODEM of ZIP files.

  15. Now, I have been suffering from line noise, (I need to
  16. get down to the basement and re-route a phone line which
  17. I installed paralell to electric wiring - duuugh, I thought
  18. that was OK at the time).  I have been getting 1000 - 1300
  19. because of the noise.  I used to get about 1620 or so 
  20. before the line noise started.

  22. I have just gotten some dl's in the range of 1800-2100!
  23. I never got that, even before the noise.  It is not the files
  24. being compressable or anything like that.  They were all zip
  25. files from various sources.

  27. Here is the thing... I was going between two PC's, each on a
  28. separate phone line in the same house.  Now, a severely
  29. uninformed person might have predicted this - Hey, there is
  30. only a short distance to go!  But I know (or thought I knew!)
  31. that this would not make any difference - the call still has
  32. to go all the way to the phone office and then back, and these
  33. two phone lines are each on different exchanges from each other.
  34. I just don't see why this should have worked so well.  Both
  35. lines are noisey.  I was expecting 1000-1300 CPS as usual.
  36. I am stumped.  Both PC's are still getting 1000-1300 on dl's
  37. from BBS's.  What is happening here?
